Questions to bring to your research

Look beneath the surface.

What creates value?

Identify the business model or network utility behind an asset.

What can change?

Consider competitive pressure, regulation, and changing demand.

Where is the uncertainty?

Challenge your assumptions and explore unfavorable scenarios.

This page is an educational resource. It does not display live prices or trading signals.

A shared research language

Connect the context to the asset.

Explore enduring market relationships rather than short-lived headlines.

Rates & the cost of capital

Examine how financing conditions can affect business investment, valuation assumptions, and the relative appeal of different assets.

Liquidity & participation

Consider who provides liquidity, how trading conditions change, and why apparent activity may not imply deep or resilient markets.

Cycles & expectations

Study the relationship between economic activity, market expectations, and the assumptions used in a forward-looking research thesis.

Business models & industry structure

Identify customers, revenue drivers, competitive pressures, and the economics behind a company’s products.

Financial statement analysis

Study profitability, cash conversion, balance-sheet strength, and the relationship between investment and growth.

Valuation & expectations

Explore multiples, cash-flow scenarios, sensitivity analysis, and the assumptions embedded in a valuation.

The market notebook

A framework you can return to.

Use these prompts when reviewing an asset or investigating a new idea.

Define the question

What are you trying to understand? Specify the asset, the relevant time horizon, and the driver you want to investigate.

Gather the evidence

Use primary materials where possible. Record the source, context, and limitations of each observation.

Compare explanations

Could the same observation support another interpretation? Consider a credible alternative before settling on a thesis.

Record the uncertainty

Write down what remains unknown and which new evidence would meaningfully change your reasoning.

A concise market glossary

Build a clearer vocabulary.

Short definitions to support your reading and research.

Cash flow

The movement of cash into and out of a business. Research often examines the relationship between operating cash generation and investment needs.

Market capitalization

The market value of a company’s outstanding equity, typically calculated from its share price and shares outstanding.

Liquidity

The ability to transact without a large effect on price. Liquidity can change with market conditions and the size of an order.

Token utility

The role a token plays in a network, such as access, settlement, governance, or economic incentives. Utility does not by itself establish investment value.

Custody

The arrangements used to hold and control an asset. Digital asset custody often involves private-key management and operational procedures.

Volatility

The variability of prices over time. It describes price movement and does not capture every form of investment risk.

Diversification

Combining exposures to reduce dependence on a single driver or outcome. Its effectiveness depends on how those exposures interact.

Scenario analysis

Examining multiple possible outcomes by changing assumptions, rather than relying on one forecast.
